Pathhead blooms at annual show

There were sights and smells galore as Pathhead and District Horticultural Society held its 62nd Annual Show in Pathhead Community Hall recently.

The show was opened by local comedian Eric Davidson who then presented the prizes. Eric’s family has had enthusiastic gardeners over several generations and he is well acquainted with growing techniques and the time and effort required to achieve great results.

This year’s fruit and vegetables were judged by Ian Archibald and Davy Smith from Greenlaw.

Davy said: “Whilst the entries are down in numbers, the quality of exhibits is exceptionally good.”

The baking was judged by Amy Stewart, handicrafts by Eleanor Marshall and the children’s classes by Jane Ross .

Jane said: “There’s a very welcome increase in the children’s entries this year and it’s been very hard to choose the winners.”

Show Manager, Jim Williams, took the opportunity to thank all the members and volunteers who helped to make the show possible. He expressed the Society’s thanks to Eric who had taken time out from his busy Edinburgh Festival Fringe schedule to open the show and present the prizes. Thanks also went to all those who had made the effort to stage exhibits as well as to all who came along to the hall and support the show.

He added: “Without them there would not be a show.”
