PATHHEAD: Olympic torchbearer Alison Binns

A KEEN Midlothian runner will get a taste of Olympic glory in the Borders this summer.

Pathhead GP Alison Binns – above – is to carry the flame through part of Peebles as one of the torchbearers on June 14.

She said: “It feels a bit unreal, because you just never think you’ll get the chance to carry the torch or be part of the Olympics. But my friends are talking about it and it’s already an exciting prospect.”

Alison (45), who was born in Belfast, lived in Ghana and England before coming to Scotland. Having moved to Pathhead in 2003, she has become an active member of the community. Alison lives in the village with her husband, Nigel, and children Lauren (10) and Sophie (7).

She was nominated by Neil Dumbleton, a fellow member of Pathhead and District Community Association.
