A PONY had to be hauled from a sodden Midlothian field in a dramatic rescue effort last week.
Firefighters battled for four hours to free Lightning, a Dartmoor pony submerged up to its neck in mud.
The incident happened on Thursday at the horse’s enclosure in Pathhead.
The pony is thought to have stumbled on ground above a disused mine shaft.
