Penicuik Brownies are 90

The 1st Penicuik Brownie pack celebrated its 90th birthday with a party for members, parents, family and guests.

The Brownies had made the invitations, birthday banner, table decorations and sandwiches for their hostess badge.

Ex-Brownie Megan Murphy, who helps at Friday meetings, cut the cake with the youngest member, Eva McGhee.

The first suggestion of starting Brownies came from Mrs Alex Cowan in 1922.

Young girls were invited to a meeting in the canteen of Valleyfield Paper Mill.

Thanks to the huge interest, a pack was formed and led by the first Brown Owl, Miss Warnock.

The Penicuik pack was registered in 1923.
