Concerns have been raised that a Penicuik burn has been in spate for two months.
Christopher Arkle of Boyd-Orr Drive contacted Scottish Water in January after seeing water gushing into the Dean Burn near Mauricewood Avenue.
“It looks like clean water and it never did that in the 36 years I have lived here. The way the water is coming out it looks like a (burst) water mains,” he said.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “We have looked at the flow of water in the Dean Burn, and its source would appear to be groundwater following periods of heavy rain in recent months.”
Dr Neville Suttle, who records Penicuik’s weather, said the December and February rainfall figures were twice the norm, with January’s above average.
