Mark the date in your diary – Penicuik’s annual street fair takes place in the town centre precinct this Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

Organised by Penicuik and District Community Council, the fair will be officially opened by the town’s Citizen of the Year, Brian Christie.

He will be joined on the day by Hunter and Lass Colin Hawkins and Gillian Garriock.

A firm feature on the town’s calendar of events for more than 30 years, the fair is expected to attract almost 40 stalls.

Most are taken by community groups and organisations keen to promote their existence in the town and to raise important funds.

This year stalls have already been booked by groups such as Penicuik Probus Club, Penicuik Community Arts Association, Penicuik Rotary Club, Penicuik Hunter and Lass, Crystal FM, the 6th Penicuik Brownies and the Friends of Chitambo.

Entertainment during the event will be provided by Penicuik Silver Band and Glencorse Pipe Band as well as the Laura Smith School of Highland Dance, Dancepointe and the Ultimate Storm cheerleaders.

Children’s entertainment includes a carousel, slide, face painting and candy floss stall.

Stalls can be booked by contacting Sheena Saltoun on 01968 676237. The cost per table is £15 which includes a free table at the community council’s Christmas fair in December.

The wet weather venue is the town hall where refreshments will be available.
