Top of the table Penicuik were at home to second placed Ross High, and on paper at least, the game had all the potential to be one of the highlights of the season.
However it was not to be, as this fixture, as is often the case, was to be a hard fought battle, rather than free flowing champagne rugby.
Penicuik broke the first half deadlock through good forward driving, Semple touching down with the conversion missed.
The second half was much the same fayre, though the home side’s second try was a cracker, stand-off Cunningham with a beautifully weighted cross kick to young winger Robert Brook who won the race with the Ross High 14, to touch down in the corner, Cunningham converting.
With ten minutes to go Ross High hooker ‘Hendo’ touched down and with the conversion following, a tense finish to the match was on the cards. And so it proved, no quarter given, at times tempers flared, but Penicuik sealed the victory with the last kick of the match, a penalty from full back McCormick.
