A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the official opening of Penicuik Medical Centre’s £462,000 new extension.
Dr Charles Winstanley, chairman of NHS Lothian, performed the honours with Midlothian Community Health Partnership’s clinical director Dr Hamish Reid and Dr Drummond Begg.
Two new, purpose-built consultation rooms have been added to the practice in Penicuik town centre. The work also included converting an existing room into a state-of-the-art consultation room for minor surgery. The fully refurbished reception area and an enhanced administration office completed the work.
Dr Winstanley was given a tour of the new extension and met staff and other invited guests at the event.
The Penicuik Medical Practice has nine GPs and a range of community nurses are also based at the practice.
A number of services are also provided at the practice including podiatry, physiotherapy and dental care. Specialist clinics for a range of conditions, including asthma, diabetes and stroke are also provided.
