A Penicuik mother has obtained more than 1,300 signatures on a special needs play park petition within two days of it going online.

The petition, set up by 32-year-old Gemma Manson, urges Midlothian Council to create local play facilities for children with additional needs.

The mother of two from Cairnbank Road, was prompted to take action following a disastrous trip to a local park.

NHS medical secretary Gemma said: “Harry was heartbroken. There was nothing suitable within Penicuik park for him to play on. I was shocked to discover there is not one park in Midlothian with sufficient equipment geared to towards children with disabilities.”
