The Auld Alliance will continue to flourish in Penicuik this week.
On Saturday, a party of visitors arrived from the French twin town of L’Isle sur la Sorgue.
Before the party’s arrival, Penicuik Twinning Association chairman Derek Rosie said that plans were well advanced for the visit. The programme incorporates free time to allow the guests to explore Midlothian and Edinburgh on their own or with their hosts.
Secretary Sheila Thacker added: “We have put a lot of effort into planning for the visit and trying to ensure we match the hospitality given to us when we visited L’Isle Sur La Sorgue last year.”
Organised elements of the week-long stay include a visit to Glenkinchie Distillery, Craigmillar Castle and the Sheep’s Heid, Duddingston, for skittles and buffet supper; a coach trip to the Trossachs and Loch Lomond; an evening performance at the Edinburgh Tattoo; and a day at the Botanic Gardens and Ocean Terminal, where the Royal Yacht Britannia is moored.
In Penicuik, there will be a welcome party, a Midlothian Council hosted reception, a table tennis tournament and farewell ceilidh.
