A campaign, launched by Penicuik YMCA/YWCA, to oppose cuts in its funding from Midlothian Council is gathering pace.
More than 50 people attended a ‘Y we need the Y’ public meeting organised after the organisation heard it was to lose £37,000 in core funding over the next three years.
The Y, based at Queensway, has been rallying support from the Penicuik community raising awareness of its plight with the community council and Penicuik Churches.
Y chairman Keith McIntosh said: “Our campaign goes on and the tempo will increase in the coming weeks.”
Councillor Owen Thompson (SNP) has already told the Advertiser that the Y does a lot of work that the council could not do itself and welcomed the “constructive” dialogue with the community group.
