Over £100,000 donated by members of the public to save the former Gorgie City Farm will be given to new owners Love Gorgie.

The money was raised by an online fundraiser run by 'Edinburgh Community Farm', a group of former Gorgie City Farm workers who got together to try and save the farm after it went into liquidation in November, with the loss of 18 jobs.

As Gorgie City Farm went into liquidation the name could no longer be used, and the farm had to be re-branded rather than 'saved' in the same form it had been before.

As such the decision on whether or not to pass the £102,258 on to Love Gorgie rested with Edinburgh Community Farm.

If it had not been, it would have been given to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home and the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

Edinburgh Community Farm has now said it will give the money to Love Gorgie, and has announced it will now shut down, wishing Love Gorgie 'all the very best in securing this treasured place for Edinburgh'.

Hannah Ryan, spokesperson for Edinburgh Community Farm, said: "I would like to thank each and every one of you for supporting us, not just through your donations but through your commitment to rally behind us until the very end. We are beyond proud of what we have achieved together.

"It is because of you that Gorgie Farm now has a real chance of surviving and thriving once again.

"Edinburgh Community Farm was set up to raise awareness of what was happening to this iconic Edinburgh landmark, rally the people to the cause of conserving it and collecting funds to help a new organisation give the farm a second chance.

"We feel that through your support, we have succeeded in that objective. , 11 .
