One of Scotland’s leading providers of housing and care, is highlighting the important role that volunteers can play in assisting older people to enjoy happy and fulfilled lives in Midlothian.

Bield are looking for a volunteer befriender to support an older person who lives in Moorfoot Court, a retirement housing development in Bonnyrigg.

Volunteer befrienders build positive relationships with service users, visiting them on a regular basis in their flats and spending time with them – from something as simple as a chat over a cup of tea, to visiting events or local attractions.

Shirley Queen, manager at Moorfoot Court, said: “At Bield we encourage our tenants to pursue their interests and hobbies as it is central to our ‘Free to Be’ ethos but they often need a little support to be able to do this.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for any tenant who would like to continue their social activities within as well as out-with the development but is unable to due to health issues.”

For more information, please contact Shirley Queen on 0131 663 2707 or visit our website where you can complete an online application form.

Bield ask for a minimum six-month commitment for this position. Applications are welcome from all people over 16. Full training and support will be given and out-of-pocket expenses paid.
