Comic Con Scotland forced to delay bringing Dog The Bounty Hunter and Police Academy star Steve Guttenberg to Edinburgh

IN a universe not so far, far away a decision  has been made. Organisers of Comic Con Scotland have been left with 'no option but to postpone' the event until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year's Comic Con Scotland, which was due to be held on 12 and 13 September, has been rescheduled and will come to the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, on 9 and 10 October 2021.

Andy Kleek of organisers Monopoly Events says, "The decision was not made likely and we are devastated that we will have to do this. Having built such a great event in the last two years, we held off as long as we could but we are at the stage now where it is very risky putting on a show of the magnitude of Comic Con Scotland with less than five months to go.

"It would be too financially risky to try and go ahead with the uncertainty around what the next few months would bring. Comic Con Scotland was set to be our biggest event to date."

Tickets for this year's gathering, which was set to bring cult names such as Duane 'Dog' Chapman and his son Leland from Dog the Bounty Hunter, Joey Cramer from Flight of the Navigator and Steve Guttenberg to Edinburgh, will be valid for the 2021 event.

Anyone who cannot make the new date can apply for a refund by emailing [email protected]. Refunds will take up to 10 days to process and show in your account.

Kleek promises that Comic Con Scotland 2021 will be "something very special for fans everywhere" with some "never before seen in the UK special guests". The line up also includes anime superstars Alexis Tipton, Emily Neves and Luci Christian and Reservoir Dogs' Mr Blonde actor Michael Madsen, voice acting royalty Frank Welker and Peter Cullen, Flash Gordon stars Sam Jones, Brian Blessed and Melody Anderson, John Challis, anime star J Michael Tatum and musician Tim Cappello, best known for his work on the film The Lost Boys.

"The positive news is that virtually all the headline guests that were going to appear this year have said they will do next year, which is a huge bonus and a positive all round," he says, adding, "I know people will be initially disappointed as we are, but it is the right decision, and now at least we can look forward to 2021 and be 100% confident in buying tickets for it knowing that this one will go ahead."

In 2019 Comic Con Scotland brought WWE's The Undertaker along with Hollywood stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Christopher Lloyd to the city.

Tickets for Comic Con Scotland 2021, priced £16.50-£103, are available now from www.comicconventionscotland.co.uk/tickets
