An Edinburgh man has made a whopping food delivery to a city hospital today as a gesture of thanks for their tireless work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Andrew Boyle, who works as a supervisor at the Scotmid on Lindsay Road, spent £219 ordering 11 XXL pizzas for staff at the Western General Hospital on Saturday afternoon.

“Make your way to the outpatient building for a slice of pizza, thank you to every single one of you for all your hard work! Much love.”

Staff at pizza-makers Papa Johns confirmed the delivery was underway with one worker saying “it was a great idea” from Andrew.

Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, the father-of-two said as a key worker himself he sympathised with the NHS staff.

Andrew said: “My work is nowhere near as tiring as what the hospital guys do, but I do get how stressful it must be for them.”

“A lot of them are doing round-the-clock shifts, 12, 13 hours at a time often.”

The Leith resident’s plan to order a huge batch of pizzas came when he woke up this morning.

“I got up and just thought ‘I want to do something good today’,” Andrew said.

Andrew, who is a dad to two girls aged five and three, has a connection to the hospital through family members who have worked there.

“My little cousin Frank is there now and both my nanas worked there before they retired”.

The born and bred Edinburgh local hopes the pizzas will make today’s shift a little better for the Western staff.
