Edinburgh says emotional farewell to much loved Henderson's

Edinburgh residents have paid tribute to Henderson’s, a much-loved vegetarian restaurant, after news that it would close its doors after 58 years in the business.
In a statement, the family-owned business said that the effects of the coronavirus pandemic had proved too much to keep the restaurant running.

Hide AdReacting to the news, Jill Ogle-Skan said: “I used to go there in the 1960s for the most delicious cheese omelette for breakfast just before attending Dugdales Secretarial College.
“But it was one of my restaurants of choice since then,” she added, “and I loved buying take away salads up until last year when I broke my ankles! Very sad.”
Isabel Muldownie called it the “end of an era”.
“How terribly sad,” Anne Nicholson said, “I remember going there with my Dad over 40 years ago when it was very different to most restaurants - but I loved it!”
Darren Mackay was “gutted” by the news, calling Henderson’s: “one of my favourites - loved going in for one of their delicious salads for lunch, or a coffee and something sweet late in the evening.”

Hide Ad“How very sad to be losing this fabulous restaurant,” added Jan Cairns.
Nicola Gilbert called it a “true Edinburgh institution”, writing: “I’m so sorry. I’ve enjoyed so many good times and great food there.”
Caroline Young, a former staff member at Hendrson’s, said: “I worked there as a waitress when I was 19 and then 26 - and I also loved the food!! Very sad news.”
Carole Mcmullan said she was “taken there as a child every Saturday for lunch after getting hair done by my aunt.”
