Groups in Midlothian have recently been getting stuck into the charity’s new programme of activities and badges, including Whittling, Meditation and Mixology.

They have also been taking action with Girlguiding Scotland’s campaign to end period poverty, as well as enjoying virtual meetings and online adventures at home during lockdown. In addition, joining 10,000 girls from all over Scotland for Tartan Gig, their exclusive concert with some of pop’s biggest names, including Lewis Capaldi, James Arthur and Becky Hill.

Stacey McKay, Girlguiding Midlothian County Commissioner, said: “We want to give more girls and young women in Midlothian the chance to join Rainbows, Brownies, Guides or Rangers, but for this to happen we need more people to volunteer.

Volunteers do not need prior experience, knowledge or skills; the most important thing is just to be yourself.

“No matter what skills, interests or experience you have we can find a role for you, and you can give whatever time you’re able to, all you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to laugh and have fun.”

Girlguiding recently launched #InspireGirls, a multi-channel UK-wide campaign featuring films on social media and starring members from the charity. Anyone can get involved in guiding, whether or not they’ve previously been a member, and with a variety of voluntary roles to choose from, people can give the time that suits them.

Moira McKenna, Girlguiding Scotland’s lead volunteer, said: “This new campaign really captures what Girlguiding is all about – inspiring girls through fun and friendship. Every week, all over Scotland, volunteers share their time to give girls a safe space where they can enjoy fun and adventure, all while learning new skills and growing in confidence.

“I know from my own experience leading Guides and Rangers what a rewarding and unforgettable experience volunteering can be.

We want to make sure every girl in Scotland who wants to has the chance to join Girlguiding, but to reach more girls we need more volunteers.

“With our brand new programme, featuring 800 new badges and activities, now is a really exciting time to join Scotland’s biggest charity for girls and young women and play a part in inspiring the next generation.”
