Holyrood recognition for Loanhead team
The management and staff of a Loanhead restaurant have been praised in the Scottish Parliament for “fantastic community spirit” in the fight against Coronavirus.
Habibur Khan, 24, managing partner of the Radhuni restaurant in Loanhead on the outskirts of Edinburgh, in particular was the subject of a motion submitted by Midlothian North and Musselburgh MSP Colin Beattie.
Mr Khan is also the youngest winner in Scotland of a major UK curry house award, receiving the title of Best Curry Restaurant in Scotland at last year’s British Curry Awards. At this year’s ceremony in December, the Indian-Bangladeshi restaurant was recognised with the Scottish Award for Outstanding Service during the pandemic.
It has served £10,000 worth of free meals to NHS and emergency workers and care home staff, and also raised money for national charity Children 1st by donating 25p from every takeaway.
The Parliamentary motion congratulated Mr Khan and said Radhuni “has shown fantastic community spirit during the pandemic as it has contributed £10,000 worth of free meals to NHS and emergency service workers and care staff since the Spring … Radhuni is an asset to the local community in Midlothian.”
Mr Khan said: “Our marvellous hard-working team have done their best to cope with the massive restrictions imposed on the hospitality industry while going out of their way to help those most in need. It is very pleasing that these efforts have been recognised in Parliament.”
