Looking forward as one in Dalkeith
One Dalkeith’s chairman has thanked locals for their support during the difficult past year and revealed the group’s plans for the future.
Despite the impact of coronavirus on everyone last year, Douglas Strachan revealed that his group was still able to deliver 20 community projects to benefit locals.
He said: “2020 was a year like no other, with restrictions placing many challenges on our communities.
"Along with our family favourites like litter picking, community cinema and the iconic Halloween and Christmas window displays, we delivered 20 new projects covering a broad scope of subjects and participants. All events were free at the point of delivery.
"We want to give a huge thank you to all the volunteers and funders who made all this possible.
“Last year also saw One Dalkeith supporting local business to open new digital channels to market with online digital marketing training and early on we established a local business ‘we’re open’ information point, to promote local businesses during lockdown.”
Looking to the future, with coronavirus restrictions easing, Douglas is confident that One Dalkeith can deliver even more this year for the local community. He said: “We are finally able to make progress with the refurbishment of our building at 21 Eskdaill Court.
"Along with our four sub-let spaces, we have earmarked eight different spaces for community use. Each space different in size and flexible in use, from our large circular theatre to our hot desk study, we cannot wait to open the building again to the public.
"There will be an abundance of activities covering many subjects - music, art, dance and drama – to cooking, crafting, DIY, to markets, festivals, theatre productions and social clubs.
“We are now seeking to build community partnerships with local businesses to help them bounce back with the launch of our Community Partnership initiative.
"This is a unique opportunity for businesses big and small to attain high street exposure and be involved in our grand opening celebration.”
One Dalkeith’s AGM will be held on May 27 online, free tickets can be booked from Eventbrite. Non-members are welcome.
