Lorna Ferguson: Missing woman with dementia traced

An appeal was launched on Saturday after a 71-year-old woman was reported missing from her home in Edinburgh.

Lorna Ferguson was last seen exiting Pilrig Park around 11am.

She has dementia and her family was said to be ‘extremely concerned’.

Police Scotland issued a statement on Saturday night to say she had been traced in East Lothian that evening.

A spokesperson said: “Police in Edinburgh are delighted to report that 71-year-old Lorna Ferguson, reported missing earlier from Pilrig Street, Edinburgh has been traced safe and well in the East Lothian area.

"Thank you to everyone who took the time to contact us, and those who shared the appeal.”

Lorna had been out walking her dog, a brown coloured cockapoo, with a luminous yellow, extendable lead, and officers stressed she had never gone missing before.

Last night, North Berwick Coastguard Team said that along with Fisherrow and South Queensferry coastguards, it had been tasked to assist Edinburgh Police Division with ongoing searches for a missing person in areas around Portobello and Musselburgh.

A statement read: “Having been given a search brief, three separate teams were deployed to conduct detailed searches of areas of interest.

“Thankfully, after nearly four hours of searches, the great news was passed by police that the subject had been traced safe and well.

“In total, 15 Coastguard Rescue Officers, all of whom are trained in search, were deployed in support of the incident.”
