Lesley Paton, from Dalkeith, decided to raise funds to help get an iPad for the hospital unit so inpatients could contact family and friends.

She said: “I started a gofundme which I shared to Bonnyrigg Residents Forum . I was contacted by Vicki Beveridge of Little Voices , Big Stars who said she would love to help.

“She had been doing live performances on Facebook and would do a Friday Fundraiser which raised an amazing £820. She also did another gig last week in aid of Alzheimer Scotland. In these difficult times local people like Vicki who are trying to help her community should be recognised.

“With the money added from gofundme we raised a total of £1145. I contacted the unit and asked if they needed anything else other than iPads. They said a couple of radios and a big screen TV if we could manage it .

“Thanks to the kind people at Robert’s Radios we were able to purchase four retro radios at a discounted price . We were also able to buy two iPads and a 55 inch screen smart TV and a wall mounting.”

Rossbank charge nurse Lyndsay Homer said: “Thank you to everyone for your amazing donation. What an amazing act of kindness and a great example of such a fantastic community coming together in such difficult times.
