Midlothian North MSP Colin Beattie has met with Ewan Gurr, the Scotland Network Manager of the Trussell Trust.
The Trust helps run Midlothian’s foodbank in Gorebridge, helping to combat poverty in the constituency by providing emergency food to people in crisis. Last year the Midlothian Foodbank provided 1,869 three-day emergency food supplies to those in need.
Mr Beattie took the opportunity to discuss the Trust’s work while at SNP Conference. He said: “I was delighted to meet with Mr Gurr and personally thank him and all who work in Scotland’s foodbanks.
“They do excellent work helping ordinary people who, through no fault of their own, cannot even afford to put food on the table.
“The requirement for foodbanks is a terrible indictment on the state of affairs across the country. I hope that, at some point in the future, we will see the economy and social security systems change in a positive way that foodbank use is minimised.
“Until such time the Trussell Trust’s work is essential, and I’m extremely grateful for their presence.”
