Missing Chinese tourist fails to make flight home

The 31-year-old Chinese woman has been not been seen since Saturday, November 12 and did not check-in for her return flight to China.

Meizhi Luo was travelling as part of a group of tourists around the United Kingdom and had been in Edinburgh when she failed to return to an agreed pick-up point.

She was last seen around 3.30pm on Saturday in the Lawnmarket/High Street area.

Meizhi, who does not speak English and is a Cantonese and Mandarin speaker, did not return to the tour pick up point at 4.30pm.

Police Scotland officers said she has also not made any contact with either her family or police.

Luo has been described as a Chinese woman with an average build. She is around 5ft 3” in height with dark medium length hair.

She was last seen wearing a long white coat with a white fur hood.

And police state Luo has no friends or family in the United Kingdom but it is possible she may have booked alternative accommodation in the Edinburgh area.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101.

The disappearance comes three weeks after French tourist Antoine Maury, 21, was reported missing, last seen near Duddingston Loch on Monday, October 24.

The 21-year-old student, who grew up in Paris and moved to St Andrews at the age of 16, had been studying music at Edinburgh College.

He was last seen around 10pm on October 24, when he suddenly left the company of his friends at Edinburgh College’s Milton Road East Campus.

A man matching Antoine’s description was later spotted between 10.45 and 11pm near to the Duddingston Village area of Holyrood Park running topless into the park.

His disappearance sparked two huge search operations which swept through Holyrood Park on Saturday, October 29 before meeting at Portobello Rugby Club on Sunday, October 30.

Friends and family even jetted in from Paris on Friday night and Saturday morning to join forces with volunteers from across the Lothians.

Police Scotland has continued the search for Antoine over the last week deploying several specialist units including the dog section and the Police Scotland Marine Unit.

Sonar equipment has also been used across Duddingston Loch.

Mr Maury, who is white, around 6ft, of medium build, with short brown hair, a beard and a fair complexion, suffers from poor eyesight and usually wears glasses however officers believe he is without them.

He also has a tattoo of a bleeding hand on his forearm and was last seen wearing a brown/green bomber jacket with dark chinos and a white beanie hat.

He is thought to have been wearing black and white Vans trainers.
