New postal service for Mayfield

A new Post Office ‘local’ service is to be introduced at Mayfield Post Office, which is located within Scotmid Co-operative on Mayfield Place.

The service, which will launch at 1pm on Wednesday, October 5, will be provided at a combination counter in the store, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.

Local residents and small business customers will be able to access a wide range of Post Office and mails services, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, and customers can also pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.

The Post Office service will be available, seven days a week, during the store’s opening hours, 7am-10pm, Monday to Sunday. The opening hours, which will increase by an extra 67 hours and 30 minutes ensuring that the branch is much more convenient with more choice of when to visit.

Colette Clark, Post Office operations manager for Scotmid Co-operative, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming customers to our newly-refurbished Mayfield Post Office, which will offer a wide range of Post Office services alongside our extensive retail offer. As a convenience store operator we are always looking for ways to make life easier for our customers and the Post Office services will be available for the full opening hours of the store in order to provide an excellent service for the local community.”

Mayfield Post Office will have to close at 12.30pm on Saturday, October 1 for the refurbishment to take place. During this short period of closure Post Office services may be accessed from any convenient Post Office branch, including Dalkeith Post Office, 69-71 High Street, Dalkeith, and Woodburn Post Office, 2A Woodburn Avenue, Dalkeith.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future. The investment marks a commitment to our no more branch closure programme.”
