Police identify body found on East Lothian beach as man from local area

The body of a man found on a beach in East Lothian has been identified as a 79-year-old from the local area.

Police received reports at around 10.15am on Wednesday that a body had been found near Longniddry Golf Club.

They released a plea to help identify the man, who had been described as white, slim and aged between 65 and 80.

He is around 5ft 5in to 5ft 8in with long grey hair and a full grey beard.

A police spokesperson has now said: “Police Scotland can confirm the body discovered on the beach at Longniddry on Wednesday, 4 November, has been identified as a 79-year-old man from the local area.

“The media and members of the public are thanked for their assistance with this matter.”

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and is not believed to be suspicious.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
