Port of Leith to join nation in marking 75th anniversary of VE Day

The Port of Leith will join the nation today in marking the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

Due to the social distancing brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no large-scale street parties and parades to commemorate VE Day - but a host of events are going ahead across television, radio and online.

As the nation honours the sacrifice of the Second World War generation 75 years on from the conflict, all vessels at the Port of Leith have been asked to sound their horns at 3pm.

Then, at 10pm, they will shine their search lights into the night sky to mark the occasion.

Posting on Twitter, LeithDocksHQ wrote: 'Tomorrow #PortofLeith will join the nation in marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day. ALL vessels have been asked to sound their horns at 1500. Then at 2200 they will shine their search lights into the night sky to mark #VEDay75.'
