Portobello Beach: 'It was only right that I did my part in helping to clear it up' - Local cleans up damage and vandalism on Edinburgh beach

Local Andrea Fraser was out walking her dog with her partner on Tuesday morning along the beach when she spotted the rubbish and damage.

She said: “My partner and I recently moved to Porty. I hadn’t quite grasped how badly some people abuse the beach with litter until we moved here.

“Every morning, there is rubbish strewn about but thankfully, there is also nearly always someone from the community out picking up the litter too.

“I know some businesses get a bad rep for contributing to the rubbish but the other day when clearing some rubbish, the owner of Civerinos also stepped in to help.

“So today when I came across what I call ‘the sculpture’, it was only right that I did my part in helping to clear it up.

“If it wasn’t me - then someone else in the community would have. That’s the type of place Porty is.

Monday saw the first day that Edinburgh moved take it’s first steps out of lockdown, with pubs, shops and gyms reopening for the first time.

Andrea added: “I understand that so many people have been frustrated with the lockdown and are just looking to cut loose a bit now that restrictions are eased - but the beach is for everyone and leaving glass and debris like that around is dangerous and ruins other people’s enjoyment – especially for those with children or dogs."
