Sign up for Artemis Pentland Peaks Challenge

Whether you can walk a little or a lot, organisers are inviting you to register for the first Artemis Pentland Peaks Challenge in the glorious Pentland Hills, overlooking Edinburgh, on Saturday 24th September. Taking part will also raise money for mental health charity SANE and Mary’s Meals, providing meals in schools where hunger stops education.

Event organiser David Fox-Pitt said: “If you can walk and have willpower, you can take part in this hike. If you can’t walk 27 miles, then walk 14 miles and if you can’t walk 14 miles, then walk eight miles. If you can’t walk at all, then volunteer as a marshal and get involved!”

Every penny raised will go to the charities, as the Artemis Charitable Foundation is covering all event costs. As many as 100 employees at UK-based fund manager Artemis have already signed up to take part in the walk or volunteer.

If you want to test yourself in the toughest endurance challenge, then the gold route covers 27 miles, climbing seven peaks. Choose this route is you want to test your fitness to the max.

Go for the silver 14-mile route if you want a challenge – but still want to be home for tea.

Or for a mini challenge with a more leisurely hike in the hills, sign up for the bronze route. Walk eight miles and climb three peaks during this route.

All routes have stunning views of Edinburgh, The Forth Bridges and Fife to the north and Borders to the south. To make access easy, free on-site parking is available and buses run from central Edinburgh to Balerno, a mile’s walk from the event hub at Cockdurno Farm.

Make pizza not war

Artemis Pentland Peaks Challenge organiser David Fox-Pitt MBE, of WildFox Events Ltd, has created some of Scotland’s most iconic adventure challenges and helped to raise over £40 million for charity. He will return from delivering aid to refugees and displaced persons in Poland and within Ukraine, in order to run the event.

Artemis funded one of the food delivery trucks that David and his team of volunteers use to distribute pizzas, ice cream and fruit among other items including pet food and medical supplies.

David explained: “We make pizza not war and take aid to where refugees need it most, sometimes feeding over 3000 people in one day with our meals on wheels service. Even when the sirens are sounding, we keep on serving. I wear my kilt and we lift morale by dancing and playing music – what started as a tiny acorn to take aid is growing into an oak. We must not forget to keep donating as showing the Ukrainians that we care is so meaningful in this grim reality.”
