Tributes have been paid to a Musselburgh youngster who died at the weekend.

Aaron Higgs, 11, was in Primary Seven at Loretto Primary School.

His death was announced in a public social media post by his football team, Musselburgh Youngstars.

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we are announcing the passing of Aaron Higgs from our 2008 team,” the club said.

“Higgsy has been part of the club for a very long time and his infectious smile will be missed greatly.

“Aaron was in primary seven at Loretto primary school and enjoyed karate as well as football.

“He will be greatly missed and all our thoughts are with our 2008's head coach Martin, Gemma and all the family.”

Musselburgh Community Football Academy commented: “On behalf of Musselburgh CFA we send our love and deepest sympathies.”

Musselburgh Windsor Community Football Club added: “Absolutely devastating news. The thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends.”
