Pilot scheme is just the job for youngsters

PUPILS will celebrate the official start of a pilot scheme on Friday that will see them receive one-to-one business mentoring to improve their employability prospects.

Over this year and next, 30 pupils from Forrester, Liberton and Tynecastle High Schools will take part in the two-year programme provided by national charity, Career Academies UK. If the scheme is successful, it will be rolled out across the city.

Ten pupils from each school will take part in the programme to help them prepare for their futures. They will benefit from a mentor to assist them with all aspects of personal and professional development, as well as a six-week paid internship, classroom lectures from business volunteers and visits to local employers.

The scheme is intended to build pupils’ confidence in a bid to give them an edge on their competitors when they leave school
