Police court success
LoTHIAN and Borders Police lost only two civil court cases brought against them by members of the public during the last five years.
The figures, released under freedom of information laws, show the force paid out £602.77 in 2009 after a claim against them for “failing to maintain property”. The force also had to pay £2308.36 in legal costs to the claimant.
Police chiefs also had to pay out £1000 to an individual who claimed he suffered a personal injury caused by the force, but a court found they should pay the courts costs after ruling that the injury had been exaggerated.
