Loanhead police officers are to start holding monthly surgeries in the community.
Community beat officer PC Gillian Lumley will join Midlothian Councillor Les Thacker (Lib Dem) when he holds his surgeries in Loanhead Library.
The pilot scheme will start on Monday, June 27, and will be repeated on Monday, July 25. The surgeries will take place from 6pm to 7pm.
Sergeant Michele Lindsay explained: “We were looking at starting regular surgeries to give members of the public another method of contacting the police and to provide them with another link to their local community officers.
“Being aware that the councillors were also holding surgeries, we thought we would try and attend as some of the issues raised could be police related, which would allow the person to speak to police, who would be sitting at a different area that same night, rather than wait.”
Sgt Lindsay added that it was hoped that by holding the surgeries in Loanhead Library, a “neutral” venue, it may encourage people who would not normally contact the police to raise issues of concern.
