Police watch sex offenders

POLICE are monitoring 84 registered sex offenders in the Lothians who are deemed to be a “high risk” of re-offending while two others are considered to be “very high risk”.

New figures showed that a total of 615 registered sex offenders (RSOs) were living in the Lothians as of December last year.

Along with the high-risk cases, 235 were deemed “medium risk” while 183 were “low risk”. Another 22 had assessment pending.

A team of 18 officers are tasked with assessing and monitoring RSOs in the force area.

Between April and December last year, officers carried out 1879 visits to see RSOs to monitor their behaviour.
