It’s game on for tax breaks

ALEX Salmond has pledged to fight European Commission moves to block a tax break for the video games industry.

Edinburgh Pentland SNP MSP Gordon MacDonald used First Minister’s Questions in the Scottish Parliament to raise concerns about the Commission’s plan to investigate the UK Government’s 25 per cent tax relief for video games companies, which was due to come into effect this month but has now been delayed.

Mr MacDonald said the industry was an important one for the Capital.

He said: “The question of tax relief is an important consideration in retaining and attracting other companies. These reliefs are vital to support this dynamic sector.”

Mr Salmond said there were more than 600 jobs in the industry in Scotland.
