Agreeing its revenue budget for 2014/15 at a meeting in Dalkeith on Tuesday (December 17), Midlothian Council voted in favour of axing school crossing patrol attendants during lunchtime hours.

The SNP-controlled administration also rubber-stamped proposals to reduce the full time equivalent of 10.13 classroom learning assistants.

The opposition Labour Group’s amended budget proposals had called for the protection of all frontline services.
