Midlothian East goes to the polls to elect new councillor

The Midlothian East by-election takes place on Thursday to elect one new councillor following the resignation of Kenneth Baird.

Polling stations will be open from 7am-10pm, and the election will use the Single Transferable Vote system where voters can rank candidates in order of preference.

Dr Grace Vickers, returning officer and chief executive of Midlothian Council said: “Many people have chosen to vote by post but please be assured if you’re voting in person, we’re taking all precautions to make sure you can do so as safely as possible.”

“Measures to keep voters and staff safe include social distancing, one way-systems, extra cleaning and wearing face coverings. Please observe and comply with all the precautions in place.”​​​​​​​
