A planning application for 290 homes and a small business park in Rosewell has been continued to allow local people to express their views .
Bett Homes Limited wants to build the housing development on 17 hectares of land off Gorton Loan, which was formerly an open cast coal quarry that was filled 20 years ago.
The planned business park would take up 2.4 hectares of the site.
The application for planning permission has been continued by the council’s planning committee, which had been advised to approve the plans by officers.
The council has received 21 written representations about the application including a petition containing 24 signatures.
Concerns raised include the amount of houses planned for the site, insufficient green space, concern about the loss of bird nesting habitat, land shift and subsidence, and that the development would put a strain on existing services and facilities in Rosewell.
