Prisoner hid heroin inside his cell radio

PRISON officers found heroin hidden inside a radio when they searched a cell at Addiewell jail.

Derek Findlay, 26, who was serving a 27-month sentence for a drugs offence, admitted “it’s mine” when challenged about the polythene-wrapped package.

At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, he was given another sentence of more than five-and-a-half years.

He pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin on October 22, 2010.

Judge Lord Turnbull was told that, in a prison environment, Findlay’s cache of heroin might be worth between £2000 and £3500.
