Privatisation costs £4.2m

The total bill for Edinburgh’s failed privatisation programme has now topped £4.2 million, it has emerged.

Councillors rejected proposals to outsource services including bin collections, street cleaning, janitors, porters and school meals to private firms.

And the council has now confirmed that £4.25m was spent on the “Alternative Business Models” project from inception in February 2009 to last month. The costs included £1.97m on external advisers.
