Police are investigating a series of suspicious fires at farms in Mid lothian and neighbouring East Lothian.
At about 6pm on Thursday, September 29, bales of hay, valued at approximately £224 were set alight in a field adjacent to Old Pentland Cemetery, Damhead.
Two male youths were seen nearby a short time before the incident.
Firefighters from Liberton attended and set to work with muckhawks to allow the fire to burn itself out.
Other fires have been reported in Longniddry, Haddington, Aberlady, East Linton and Tranent – resulting in the destruction of more than 200 bales of hay. The damage is valued at more than £5000.
Police are now visiting local farmers offering crime prevention advice, and are appealing for anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.
