Professor to join Mandela
A PROFESSOR from Penicuik is to join Nelson Mandela as a freeman of Midlothian.
Professor Geoff Palmer will become part of one of a select group of people to receive the honour, at a ceremony held later this year. The Heriot-Watt University lecturer and brewing expert is a prominent anti-racism campaigner.
Midlothian Provost Adam Montgomery said: “Prof Palmer has done a power of work nationally and internationally, both in his brewing career and in his anti-racism work, and we are fortunate he chose to make his home in Penicuik.”
