Rail row over new start date

a FRESH row has broken out over the Borders Railway Project after it was announced that the contract would be awarded early next year, with construction due to start by summer 2012.

Transport Scotland had previously said construction would start by “winter 2011”, shortly after the contract was awarded, but today insisted that the project is still within the published timescale.

With only one remaining bidder for the project, BAM, there have also been reports that it was to demand more than the expected £230 million for the main construction contract, pushing the budget beyond its intended limit of £295m.
