RBS green prize nomination sparks fury

ENVIRONMENTALISTS have slammed a decision to shortlist Edinburgh-based Royal Bank of Scotland for one of the nation’s leading green awards.

RBS will vie for the title of the country’s most environmentally friendly business at the Government-supported Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (Vibes) awards.

The honour has infuriated environmental campaigners, with Lothian Green MSP Alison Johnstone calling for the company’s nomination to be abandoned and labelling the financial institution among the world’s worst polluters.

Fellow multinational Shell has also been shortlisted in the category.

Ms Johnstone said: “To suggest RBS and Shell are paragons of virtue and to brand these awards as green is to corrupt the meaning of the word.”
