Research group is brand new

A SCIENTIFIC research body based in the Capital has been rebranded.

The Centre for Systems Biology at Edinburgh (CSBE) has been renamed the Centre for Synthetic and Systems Biology (SYNTHSYS).

It follows of the merger of the CSBE with the Edinburgh Synthetic Biology Centre. The centre was established in 2006 with a £10.5 million research grant as one of six centres for integrative systems biology in the UK.

New director Professor Vincent Danos, said: “We have a world-class team of award-winning engineers and bio- engineers at SYNTHSYS.

“The UK Technology Strategy Board predicts the emergence of a £1 billion a year industry in this field and we are positioning ourselves for what could become a new industrial revolution.”
