Leave politics out of local government – that’s the plea of retiring councillor Margaret Wilson.
The Nationalist councillor (64) steps down in May after representing Penicuik for the past five years.
Councillor Wilson told the Advertiser she was intending to spend more time with her husband Jim (69) and family, including daughters Kerry and Leigh.
“I have loved my job. I loved working in the community. It gave me a real sense of satisfaction and purpose.
“I had my downs, and I would make anybody who stands for election go in as an independent. I am SNP through and through, but for the job as a local councillor, you are there fighting for your community.
“You are on the bottom rung of the ladder. You are not going to deliver independence for Scotland. You are working for your community,” she said.
