Campaigners objecting to the proposed closure of public toilets in Midlothian were left disappointed at the first meeting of the council’s newly-formed Petitions Committee last week.
Expressing the views of 2341 residents, petitioners Kenny Young and Gillian Little urged the committee to retain the facilities in Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Loanhead, Gorebridge and Penicuik.
At a budget meeting in December, the SNP-controlled administration agreed to carry out a ‘review’ of the toilets.
As a result, projected savings of £85,000 have been factored into the budget for 2013/14.
