RNLI called to Portobello Beach after paddle boarder and kayaker get into difficulty

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) attended an incident on Sunday afternoon involving a man and a woman.

RNLI Kinghorn was called to Portobello Beach just after 12:25pm, with crew members assisting a paddle boarder and kayaker who had both got in to bother.

The pair were taken to shore and then tended to by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A spokesman for Kinghorn RNLI said: "At around 12:25pm on Sunday RNLI were tasked by HM Coastguard following reports of a paddle boarder in difficulty.

"The crew attended the scene and assisted two casualties who were a paddle boarder and a kayaker.

"Both people were taken aboard the lifeboat and taken to shore where they were handed to the care of the ambulance service."

Yesterday, the emergency services were also called to the Pentland Hills following reports a person had taken ill on Turnhouse Hill, near Penicuik, at around 10:05am.

The person was taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance.
