Customers shopping at a Dalkeith supermarket can expect musical treats and high-jinks when they do their grocery runs next week.
The Tesco store at Hardengreen is staging a Rock the Shop event to help raise money for the company’s chosen charities, Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.
Staff member Lisa Banzies is organising the musical extravaganza, which will run on August 14, 15 and 16.
She said: “Throughout the year, Tesco organises fundraising weekends for each store to run.
“We’ve been asked to do a Rock the Shop event and I thought - since Glastonbury and T in the Park have passed - it would be good to have one with a festival theme.
“As it’s fallen in the run-up to the Midstock Festival at Dalkeith Country Park, it seemed an ideal way to continue the summer and help our customers forget about all this awful weather we’ve been having.
“There’s been some collaboration with the festival and I’m looking to get local performers and bands into the store over the course of the weekend.
“This will also help promote the festival, while raising money for our charities.”
Lisa, who has been known to don Kiss make-up, also hopes that fellow employees and customers will dress up as their musical heroes.
And, even if you’re not musically adept, there’s a chance for everybody to pick up an electric guitar, plug it in to an amplifier and turn the volume knob to 11 – in your imagination.
By doing so, you could be a record-breaker.
Lisa said: “As a company, we’re also looking to break the world record for largest air guitar ensemble on the Saturday at 2pm.
“It’s happening through all our stores, so we’re keen to get as many people as possible to join us.
“Our customers really do appreciate this type of event.
“They see it as something a bit different and most of them are always up for a bit of fun and games.
“I think the whole weekend could be pretty cool.”
