School meals popular in Midlothian

Midlothian has the highest uptake of school meals for primary and secondary school pupils in mainland Scotland, new figures show.

A Scottish Government report, published this week, confirms that the county is now top of the league for the uptake of both paid-for and free school meals.

In 2013, around 71 per cent of primary school pupils signed up for school meals.

This is compared to 62 per cent in 2012 and a national average of 53 per cent.
