Mary Berry’s Absolute Favourites (BBC2, 8pm)

New series. The veteran cook draws on her wealth of specialist knowledge to share a selection of her favourite recipes, each inspired by a much-loved place.

In the first programme, she draws her inspiration from childhood trips to the seaside, preparing goats cheese and shallot tarts with an innovative walnut pastry, considered ideal for a picnic hamper. She moves on to royal crab and cod fishcakes with tomato salsa, followed by sea bass with brown shrimp and caper sauce.

Man and Beast with Martin Clunes (ITV, 9pm)

Martin Clunes describes himself as a ‘bunny-hugger’ - somebody who simply loves animals.

He’s demonstrated his passion for our four-legged friends in various documentaries, including Horsepower and A Man and His Dogs. Now he’s back with a new, globe-trotting project which explores man’s involvement with birds and animals.

Martin begins by examining why cows are sacred in Nepal, and visits a shelter for elderly members of the species.

He then meets a pigtail macaque monkey, whose owner uses its tree-climbing skills to pick coconuts.
